City Invests in Emergency Communication Technology

Mayor Daniel Rivera, with Fire Chief Brian Moriarty, announces the investment of emergency communication technology in the City of Lawrence. The city has implemented CodeRED, an emergency and critical communications technology that will streamline urgent and emergency notifications to residents. “CodeRED will allow our public safety departments to communicate in real time during emergency situations,” said Mayor Daniel Rivera. “This technology allows us to send a text message or call residents directly to keep them informed during emergency operations. This technology is not spam and does not result in unwanted robo calls, it is a way for city officials to communicate fast and effectively to deliver important messages. I urge all residents to sign up for CodeRED today.”

CodeRED Technology Features:

 NO Spam calls

 NO unwanted robo calls

 Free for residents to sign up and use

 Receive updates on city events, severe weather alerts, road construction, emergency alerts

 Two-way messaging allows for residents to respond to text notifications

 Compatible with Android, iOS, Windows

 Communication available in any language

 Receive notifications your way: Phone, Email, Text

 High Speed notification system

 Mapping technology that allows residents to receive notifications specific to their neighborhood

CodeRED is used by communities nationwide, and was utilized during the Boston Marathon bombings to send critical communications to both runners and to the public. “The use of CodeRED as a mass notification system will allow us to notify residents in the city of any type of incident-emergency or routine at a moment’s notice,” said Fire Chief Brian Moriarty. “CodeRED is a great system that will greatly improve our information pathway to our citizens.” In addition to emergency communication, the CodeRED system also allows residents who opt in for updates to get text messages or voicemails when severe weather alerts, special events or road work is happening throughout the city. Residents who are interested in receiving CodeRED notifications can visit https://www.cityoflawrence.com/756/Code-Red or call the Mayor’s Office for more information at 978-620-3010.
