The City of Lawrence, through its Community Development Department, will conduct Public Hearings and a Workshop regarding the use of approximately $2.5 million in Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME funds available on or about July 1, 2009.

The Community Development Department will host the meetings, whose primary objective is to solicit public participation in determining the needs of the city, and to allow public input on the decision making process regarding the use of Federal funds.

The City is soliciting proposals that benefit people of low to moderate income, that address slums and blight, and that relate to the availability of decent, safe, affordable housing in the City for FY10 CDBG funding.

The first Public Hearing will review the accomplishments of programs and projects receiving funding in the previous year, and provide information on the CDBG funding for the upcoming year.

The CDBG Workshops will explain the application process for CDBG funding.  The hearings and workshops are fully accessible and open to all.

Individuals requiring Spanish translation or American Sign interpreters are asked to contact the office at (978) 620-3510 in advance of the meetings.  Technical assistance in preparing your proposals will be available upon request.

Application materials will be available after Tuesday, December 9 at the Community Development Department, 147 Haverhill Street, Lawrence, MA 01840 and at the Public Hearing on Tuesday December 9th at Heritage State Park, One Jackson Street, Lawrence, MA between the hours of 5-8:00 p.m.  Electronic copies are available by request to agil@cityoflawrence.com.

Completed applications must be received at the City of Lawrence Community Development Department, 147 Haverhill Street, Lawrence, MA  01840, no later than Monday, February 2, 2009 by 3:00 p.m.
