Detour East Haverhill Street over the Spicket River

Traffic Restrictions during Construction

On Wednesday, January 19th, MassDOT implemented a traffic restriction affecting the bridge carrying East Haverhill Street over the Spicket River. Travel over the bridge is restricted to the southbound direction with northbound traffic being detoured. Provisions have been made to accommodate the passage of emergency vehicles in both directions using an emergency traffic signal control system.

Drivers traveling towards the bridge in the northbound direction are being detoured as follows:

Eastbound traffic on Haverhill Street

  • Continue east past Newbury Street to Prospect Street.
  • Turn left onto Prospect Street and follow until rejoining East Haverhill Street.

Northbound traffic on Newbury Street

  • Turn right onto Haverhill Street and continue to Prospect Street.
  • Turn left onto Prospect Street and follow until rejoining East Haverhill Street.

Northbound traffic on Union Street –

  • Turn right onto Haverhill Street and continue to Prospect Street.
  • Turn left onto Prospect Street and follow until rejoining East Haverhill Street.

Eastbound traffic on Elm Street –

  • Turn right onto East Haverhill Street and continue to Haverhill Street.
  • Turn left onto Haverhill Street and continue to Prospect Street.
  • Turn left onto Prospect Street and follow until rejoining East Haverhill Street.

In addition, the section of Avon Street between Albion Street and East Haverhill Street is closed to eastbound traffic. Affected drivers should use Jackson Street to access the detour route by turning left onto Haverhill Street.

The travel restrictions and associated detour routes will remain in effect throughout the duration of the bridge reconstruction project.

MassDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when traveling through the work zone and the associated detour routes.
