The mission of the Lawrence Housing Authority is to promote adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and suitable living environments free from discrimination. The mission of the Housing Authority of the City of Lawrence is to assist low-income families with safe, decent and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of their lives. The Housing Authority is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical and professional manner. The Housing Authority will create and maintain partnerships with its clients and appropriate community agencies in order to accomplish this mission.

Objectives:

- The Lawrence Housing Authority shall promote a motivating work environment with a capable and efficient team of employees to operate as a customer-friendly and fiscally prudent leader in the affordable housing industry

- The Lawrence Housing Authority has formed a private non-profit, community-based organization whose mission is to provide decent affordable housing opportunities for low-income individuals

- The Lawrence Housing Authority shall achieve proper curb appeal for its public housing developments by improving its landscaping, keeping its grasses cut and making the properties free of litter

- The Lawrence Housing Authority will work with the Lawrence Police Department so that the crime rate in their developments is less than their surrounding neighborhoods by December 31, 2009

- The Lawrence Housing Authority maintains an aggressive outreach program to attract new landlords to participate in its programs

- The Lawrence Housing Authority shall maintain and create appealing, up-to-date environments in its developments. The Lawrence Housing Authority shall maintain an average response time of 24 hours in responding to emergency work orders

- The Lawrence Housing Authority shall mix its public housing development populations in regards to ethnicity, race and income as much as possible

- The Lawrence Housing Authority shall maintain adequate reserves of operating expenditures

- The Lawrence Housing Authority will team up with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs, the Justice Department and Job Training Partners to use community rooms and facilities to promote economic opportunities, job training and recreational activities

- The Lawrence Housing Authority has two community facilities that serve the needs of our federal developments.

The multi-service center has been the main activity center for our MA 10-1 development for over 20 years. The community center has been a central storage and gym facility for the past 5 years
