Poll Worker Applications and Information

Election Officers staff the city’s 24 precincts on Election Day to ensure that all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote.

Poll workers assist the City Election Division by:

  • preparing voting locations so voters may cast ballots
  • place instructional signs and materials at each poll location
  • distribute, receive and return ballots  
  • process voters and provide voters with ballots
  • record all election activities
  • assure the poll location is accessible to all voters
  • process completed ballots and materials
  • complete ballot counts and tally of votes

A stipend is paid to each poll worker for their service provided on Election Day!

Important things to know before applying:

  • Applicants must registered to vote in Massachusetts. Lawrence residents are preferred.
  • Applicants must attend a mandatory training session before each election.
  • All poll worker shifts are for one day only from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or until the poll officially closes.
  • Full day shifts are preferred -  split shifts or half day shifts are sometimes available.
  • Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. The City specifically needs poll workers fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Poll workers must be professional and helpful in all matters maintaining respect for all voters at all times
