Mayor Lantigua Announces 2011 Road Improvement Program

Mayor William Lantigua announced today an aggressive Road Improvement Program for the City of Lawrence for 2011.  Mayor Lantigua and the Department of Public Works have been working on a creative approach to repairing our streets since taking office last year.  Today they both announced that eleven streets will be resurfaced over the course of the next two months.

Since taking office in January 2010, Mayor Lantigua has made public infrastructure improvements a priority in his administration.  Over the course of the last eighteen months, six streets were resurfaced and by the end of this fall close to twenty streets will be completed under Mayor Lantigua’s program.  In his first term of office, Mayor Lantigua stated that he expects to repair over forty roadways.

“For to long, in fact for decades, city streets were not a priority for previous Mayors.  That attitude is no longer acceptable as the people of Lawrence deserve streets that are safe and passable for both pedestrians and vehicular traffic.  Some of the streets that will be worked on this summer, have not been touched since the 1970’s according to city engineering records,” stated Mayor William Lantigua.

The streets announced today for repair include; Lawrence Street (back of Court House to Maple), Daisy Street, Cross Street, Knox Street, Vine Street, High Street (East Haverhill to Ferry), Howard Street, Bowdoin Street, Dorchester Street, Cambridge Street and South Union Street.
