Yard of the Month Program

The “Yard of the Month”/”Storefront of the Month” award to eliminate litter is off to a great start. The award recognizes people who make the extra effort to keep Lawrence beautiful. This award will inspire others to eradicate trash, pick-up litter and to improve the quality of life in the City of Lawrence.

Nominations and suggestions for Yard of the Month and Storefront of the Month are accepted via email to FOConnor@CityofLawrence.com or submitted to the Community Development Department located at 147 Haverhill Street Lawrence, MA 01841 c/o Frank O’Connor.

Yard of the Month

December 2011 - Ms. Milagro Peña

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for December 2011 is Ms. Milagro Peña of 77 Summer Street at the corner of Newbury Street, across from the Reviviendo Playground. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Ms. Milagro Peña and her family been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

Ms. Milagro Peña and her family have made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalk and gutter clean and free of trash and litter. The Peña family has made their part of the city much nicer. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk and curb area free of trash and litter," said Ms. Milagro Peña. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned Ms. Milagro Peña and her family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for December 2011.

November 2011 - Polanco-Marte Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for November 2011 is the Polanco-Marte Family of 38 Marble Ave, near Ohio Ave. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of the Polanco-Marte family been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

Pablo and Yanet Paulino-Marte and their extended family have made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalk and gutter clean and free of trash and litter, right out to Water Street. The efforts of the Paulino family have made their part of Tower Hill much cleaner. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk and curb area free of trash and litter," said Ms. Yanet Paulino-Marte. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Paulino-Marte family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for November 2011.

October 2011 - Ortiz Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for October 2011 is Ms. Rupertina Ortiz of 175-177 Salem St., at the corner of Market St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of the Ortiz family been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

Ms. Ortiz and her family have made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalk, gutter at Salem and Market streets, clean, and free of trash and litter, right out to the street. The efforts of the Ortiz family have made their part of Salem Street much cleaner for the neighborhood. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk and curb area free of trash and litter," said Ms. Rupertina Ortiz. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned Ms. Rupertina Ortiz and her family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for October 2011.

September 2011 - Ms. Angela Suliveras

The winner of the prestigious Yard of the Month award for September 2011 is Ms. ANGELA SULIVERAS of 1-3 Summit Ave.

August 2011 - González and Villa Almanzar Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the co-winners of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for August 2011 are both families at the condo/duplex 41-47 Melvin St., at the corner of Kempton Court. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of the González family at 47 Melvin Street, and Villa Almanzar family at 41 Melvin Street have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

These neighbors and families have made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalk and gutter at Melvin and Kempton, behind the Merrimack Courts, clean and free of trash and litter, right out to the street at their homes. The efforts of both the Gonzalez Family and Villa Almanzar family have made their part of Melvin Street much cleaner for the neighborhood. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk and curb area free of trash and litter," said Ms. Rita Almanzar. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned both the Gonzalez Family and Villa Almanzar family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for August 2011.

July 2011 - Castillo Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for July 2011 is the Castillo Family at 80 Blanchard St., at the corner of Farnham St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Mr. Andres Castillo, his wife, Ms. Francia Castillo and their entire family have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

The Castillo Family have made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalk and gutter at Blanchard and Farnham streets clean and free of trash and litter, right out to the street at their home. The Castillo Family has a picturesque garden and cleans the alley behind their home. The efforts of the Castillo Family have made their part of Blanchard much cleaner for the neighborhood. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk and curb area free of trash and litter," said Mr. Andres Castillo. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Castillo Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for July 2011.

June 2011 - Reynoso Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for June 2011 is the Reynoso Family at 73-75 Sunset Ave, near the corner of Saratoga St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Mr. Pedro Reynoso, his wife, Ms. Melida Reynoso and their entire family have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

The Reynoso Family made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalk and gutter at Sunset Ave. clean and free of trash and litter, right out to the street at their home. The efforts of the Reynoso Family have made their part of Sunset Ave. much cleaner for the neighborhood. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Reynoso Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for June 2011.

May 2011 - Ms. Barbara Loszewski

The winner of the prestigious Yard of the Month award for May 2011is Ms. Barbara Loszewski of 77 Stearns Ave.

April 2011 - Nuñez Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for April 2011 is the Nuñez Family at 87 Dracut Street, at the corner of Clifton St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Mr. Angel Nuñez, his wife, Ms. Irma Irizarry and their daughter, Vivian Nuñez have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

The Nuñez Family made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalks at Dracut and Clifton streets clean and free of trash and litter, right out to both streets around their home. The efforts of the Nuñez Family have made their part of Dracut Street much cleaner for the neighborhood, especially with the vacant abandoned store across from their house. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk free of trash and litter," said Mr. Angel Nuñez. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Nuñez Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for April 2011.

March 2011 - Rita Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for March 2011 is the Rita Family at 3 Camden Street, at the corner of Tenney St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of John & Rose Rita have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

The Rita Family makes wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalks clean and free of trash and litter, right out to the street. The efforts of the Rita Family have made their part of Camden Street much cleaner and safer for the neighborhood children to get to the Arlington School. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk free of trash and litter," said Ms. Rose Rita. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Rita Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for March 2011.

Febuary 2011 - Levy Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for February 2011 is the Levy Family at 167 Prospect Street, near the corner of Haverhill St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of the Levy Family have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

The Levy Family made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalks clean and free of snow and ice, right out to the street. With the heavy snowfall this winter, the efforts of the Levy Family have made their part of Prospect Street much safer for the neighborhood children to get up and down the hill to the Charter School and the hospital. "It costs nothing but a little effort to keep the sidewalk free of snow and ice," said Ms. Ana Levy. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Levy Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for February 2011.

January 2011 - Lyon Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for January 2011 is the Lyon Family at 101 Olive Avenue, near the corner of Middlebury St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of the Lyon Family have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property. ”

Mr. Fred Lyon has made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalks clean and free of snow and ice, right out to the street, particularly the handicap space near his home. With the recent heavy snowfall, the efforts of the Lyon Family have made their part of Olive Ave much safer for the neighborhood children to get up and down the hill to the Bruce School. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Lyon Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for January 2011.

December 2010 - Stewart Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for December 2011 is the Stewart Family at 25 Dorchester Street, near Winthrop Ave. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Neil and Irene Stewart have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property. ”

The Stewarts have made wonderful efforts to keep their sidewalks clean and free of snow and ice, right out to the street. With the accumulation of snow, the snow removal efforts of the Stewarts have made their part of Dorchester Street safer for children to walk to school and for others to pass through the neighborhood. After each snowfall, the Stewart family painstakingly removes all the snow and ice from their sidewalk and yard. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Stewart Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for December 2010.

Nobemver 2010 - Ms. Noris Frias

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for November 2011 is Ms. Noris Frias at 61 Bunkerhill Street, near at the corner of Lawrence St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Ms. Noris Frias have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

Ms. Frias has made wonderful efforts to keep the sidewalks clean and free of trash and litter, right out to the street. She has even paid a professional to remove sneakers that were thrown over the telephone wires in front of her home. With the recent construction and resurfacing of Lawrence Street near her home, the efforts of Ms. Frias have made her part of Bunkerhill Street much cleaner in the neighborhood. Every day, Ms. Frias painstakingly removes all the trash from the area of her sidewalk and yard. It is this hard work and much pride in its upkeep that has earned Ms. Noris Frias the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for November 2010.

October 2010 - Ms. Juana Abreu and her family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for October 2010 is Ms. Juana Abreu and her family at 5 Haverhill Street, near Prospect St. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Ms. Abreu and her family have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

Ms. Abreu, with the help of her husband, Juan Carlos Espinal, and their extended family, have made wonderful efforts to keep their yard clean and free of litter, right out to the street. Their home is on Haverhill Street at the intersection of Prospect Street. With the recent bridge construction in Lawrence, Prospect and Haverhill streets have become primary conduits for the neighborhood. Every day, the Abreu family painstakingly picks up the litter that blows into their yard. It is this hard work, great creativity and much pride in its upkeep that has earned Ms. Juana Abreu and her family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for October 2010.

August 2010 - Walworth Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for August 2010 is the Walworth Family at 71 Beacon Street, near the corner of Mt. Vernon St. Mayor Lantigua said, “For over forty years, the efforts of the Walworth family have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

David & Patricia Walworth, with the help of their great-grandson, have made wonderful efforts to keep their yard clean and free of litter, right out to the street. The Walworth home is on Beacon Street near the intersection of Mt. Vernon Street, which is a primary conduit in and out of the neighborhood. Every day, the Walworth family painstakingly picks up the litter that blows into their yard. It is this hard work, great creativity and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Walworth Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for August 2010.

July 2010 - The Rendón Family

June 2010 - The Baez Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for June 2010 is the Baez Family at 32 Arlington Street, across from the Howard Playstead. Mayor Lantigua said, “The efforts of Mrs. Marcela Baez and her family have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

Mrs. Marcela Baez and her family, have made wonderful efforts to keep their yard clean and free of litter, right out to the street. The Baez home is on Arlington Street near the Howard Playstead, which is heavily used by sports leagues and youth teams. Every day, the Baez family painstakingly picks up the litter that blows into their yard. It is this hard work, great creativity and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Baez Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for June 2010.

May 2010 - The Gómez Family

The Office of Mayor William Lantigua is pleased to announce that the winner of the prestigious “Yard of the Month” award for May 2010 is the Gómez Family at 577 Haverhill Street, at the corner of Reservoir St. Mayor Lantigua said, “For years, the efforts of Jóse and Juana Gómez have been an inspiration to the residents of Lawrence to keep the city clean and show great pride in their property.”

Mr. Jóse Gómez and his wife, Mrs. Juana Gómez, have made wonderful efforts to keep their yard clean and free of litter, right out to the street. The Gómez home is at the corner of Haverhill and Reservoir streets, which is heavily used. Every day the Mr. & Mrs. Gómez painstakingly pick up the litter that blows into their yard. It is this hard work, great creativity and much pride in its upkeep that has earned the Gómez Family the coveted recognition of Yard of the Month award for May 2010.
