Solid Waste Management

The Solid Waste Management Division is tasked with ensuring the City’s public health goals are met, as they related to the proper handling and disposal of solid waste. This includes trash/garbage, recyclable materials, bulk items (including white goods), yard waste, seasonal items (such as Christmas trees), and hazardous waste.

Collection, hauling, and disposal of most of these items is handled by a contractor to the City. The Division operates under the direction and oversight of the Director of Public Works, and currently has one full-time staff person.

As of November 2022, The City has contracted with Capitol Waste Services for residential solid waste. Under this multi-year contact, Capitol is tasked with collecting, hauling, and disposing of all residential trash, recycling, and yard waste.
