Officer Carl Farrington and Sergeant Mike Simard located and arrested Joseph Caraballo, age 45, of Lawrence who had an active warrant for his arrest stemming from an armed standoff with police at a Methuen rooming house yesterday. The standoff required the mobilization of the NEMLEC Swat Team. Caraballo was located in South Lawrence with another individual, Jose Roman of Lawrence. As police were interviewing Roman, he attempted to flee on foot. As officers gave chase, they noticed that Roman was grasping his waistband. He was taken into custody by Sergeant Simard and Detective Angel Lopez a short distance away. A semi-automatic pistol was located on the ground near the location Roman was taken into custody.
