On what should have been a celebratory night, a single act of senseless violence led to the death of a 35 year old man. We feel for the family and friends of the victim. Investigators have worked tirelessly to bring the killer to Justice. We thank the District Attorney's Office, the Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to it, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitives Apprehension Section and the U.S Marshall Service, as well as  our own Patrol Officers and Detectives for their work in bringing this case to a quick conclusion.  -Chief Roy Vasque

The suspect in the shooting death of a NH man on New Year’s Eve is in custody according to Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett and Lawrence Police Chief Roy Vasque.

Luis Polanco, 25, of Lawrence turned himself in to the New York City Police Department in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday and was subsequently arraigned in New York County Criminal Court on a fugitive from justice charge. The Essex District Attorney’s Office was notified this morning that he waived rendition. As soon as it is known when he will be returned to Lawrence District Court to be arraigned for murder, it will be announced.

At approximately 11:49 pm on December 31st, Lawrence PD received a call reporting shots fired at 7B Summer St. Patrols responded to that location where they found Wilson Javier, 35, Salem, NH, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the Lawrence General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased soon after arrival.

Mr. Polanco is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This matter remains under investigation by the Essex District Attorney’s Office, the Essex State Police Detective Unit and the Lawrence Police.
